Where to find GTA V's aiming and display settings
In GTA V, also known as GTA 5, open the Pause Menu and choose Settings. Rockstar's settings guide points to the controls, camera, and display options there. Review your current setup before adding another aiming mark.
A crosshair and an aiming mode do different jobs. The crosshair is a visual mark; the game's controls determine how aiming behaves. Changing the appearance of a dot does not turn free aim into assisted aim.

Suggested GTA V crosshair settings
For an external crosshair, a small dot is an easy starting point. The aim is to make the center easy to find without placing a large shape over the scene.

Keep the game's own aiming mark visible during setup. If your new dot makes the screen busier without making aim easier to read, reduce its size or return to the native mark.
A crosshair that looks sharp over a dark road may disappear against a bright sign. Test a few contrasting backgrounds and change one setting at a time. You do not need a different preset for every weapon just to get started.
How to check a GTA V crosshair overlay
Use a quiet area in Story Mode to compare the views and controls you play with. That gives you room to adjust the appearance without rushing through a multiplayer session.
- Open ChrossX on Windows and select your starting style, size, and color.
- Run GTA V on the same monitor at your usual resolution.
- On foot, compare the overlay with the game's aiming point while looking at a clear, stationary object.
- Switch between first-person and third-person views, then compare normal aiming with looking through the weapon's sights.
- Check vehicle views separately if you use them. If the fixed dot does not match a view's aiming point, rely on the game's own reference there.
Do not assume a mark at screen center is a universal impact indicator. It cannot account for camera offsets, weapon movement, or a different aiming system in a vehicle. Its useful role is a consistent visual reference when that reference matches your view.
GTA V Story Mode, GTA Online, and FiveM
Check each environment separately. A setup you tried in Story Mode does not establish permission or compatibility in GTA Online. Review the current multiplayer rules before bringing an external overlay into Online.

Common GTA V crosshair questions
Is a custom crosshair the same as aim assist?
No. An overlay draws a mark on screen. It does not select a target or move your aim toward one.
Why does the dot look wrong in another camera view?
A fixed screen position does not adjust to changes in perspective. Compare it with the game's own aiming mark in that view instead of assuming the center is correct.
Can I use FiveM crosshair commands in GTA V?
The commands in our FiveM guide are for the FiveM client. They are not settings to enter in GTA V Story Mode or GTA Online.
Can I install ChrossX on PlayStation or Xbox?
