For a clear Fortnite crosshair, start with a small dot or short cross in a color you can see against both the sky and the ground. Keep the game's own crosshair visible while you adjust it, then decide whether an extra aiming point makes your screen easier to read.
Where are Fortnite's crosshair settings?
Fortnite calls its crosshair a reticle. Epic's reticle settings guide explains how to show or hide it:
- Open the profile menu and choose Settings.
- Go to the Game UI tab.
- Find Reticle & Damage Feedback, then turn Reticle on or off.
- Apply the change before returning to the game.
This controls visibility. A Windows overlay such as ChrossX adds a separate aiming mark with its own style, size, and color. It does not replace Fortnite's weapon behavior or change where bullets land.
A simple Fortnite crosshair setup
Your crosshair needs to stay visible without hiding the player you are aiming at. Use these settings as a starting point, then adjust them at your normal resolution.

There is no single best color for every Fortnite scene. If cyan disappears against a bright sky, try magenta before making the mark larger. If a large cross blocks a distant target, shorten it or use a dot.
Use the same crosshair for a few practice rounds before changing it again. Adjust one thing at a time so you can tell whether size, shape, or color made the difference.
How to set up a Fortnite crosshair overlay on PC
- Open ChrossX and choose the style, size, and color you want to try.
- Launch Fortnite on the same monitor, using your usual resolution.
- In a practice session, compare the overlay with the center of Fortnite's own reticle.
- Try moving, building if your mode includes it, and switching weapons. Make sure the mark stays easy to see without covering useful detail.
- Compare normal aiming with looking through a weapon's sights. Keep the game's own aiming information wherever it is more useful.
A fixed dot gives you a consistent screen-center reference. It does not expand with weapon spread, follow an opponent, or tell you how far ahead of a moving target to aim. Treat it as a visual aid while learning the weapon you are using.
If the crosshair is missing or looks wrong

Common Fortnite crosshair questions
Should I turn off Fortnite's original crosshair?
Keep it on at first. Compare the two aiming points and decide which information you want visible. If they overlap awkwardly, simplify the overlay or use the native reticle on its own.
Is a dot better than a cross?
A dot covers less of the scene. A short cross can be easier to find when you turn quickly. Try both with the same color and similar overall size.
Does a custom crosshair reduce weapon spread?
No. Changing a visual aiming mark does not change the weapon's accuracy or spread.
Can I install ChrossX on a console or phone?
ChrossX is a Windows app. The overlay steps here are for PC; the app does not install on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or mobile devices.
