FiveM has a built-in custom crosshair, so start there if your server allows it. Try a small cyan cross, adjust the size against the scenes you play in, and compare it with your weapon's aim. If you prefer a separate overlay, check the server's rules before setting one up.

How to enable FiveM's custom crosshair

Cfx.re documents the available controls in its official crosshair guide. Open the client console with F8 and enter these commands one at a time for a small cyan cross:

cl_customCrosshair true
cl_crosshairstyle 5
cl_crosshairsize 2
cl_crosshairthickness 0.5
cl_crosshairgap 1
cl_crosshairdot false
cl_crosshaircolor 4

This is a suggested starting preset. Close the console and judge its size on your own screen. To turn the custom crosshair off, enter cl_customCrosshair false.

Suggested crosshair settings and how to adjust them
SettingStarting pointAdjust when…
Line lengthcl_crosshairsize 2Shorten the lines if they cover too much of a distant target.
Line thicknesscl_crosshairthickness 0.5Increase slightly if the cross disappears against scenery.
Center gapcl_crosshairgap 1Adjust the open space to keep small details visible.
Colorcl_crosshaircolor 4 (cyan)Try preset 1 (green) or 2 (yellow) against your usual surroundings.

The size numbers are FiveM command values, not a measurement in screen pixels. Compare the result at your normal resolution before copying the same numbers into a different tool.

Try your setup on foot against a bright sky, a dark doorway, and a busy street. The goal is to find the mark quickly while still seeing what is behind it. If it disappears only against one background, change the color before making the whole cross much larger.

Keep your usual camera view during this comparison. Once the cross looks right there, switch between the other views you use and check the alignment again. A crosshair that feels comfortable while standing still may cover too much when the camera moves closer to your character.

When does a separate overlay make sense?

If the built-in crosshair gives you the appearance you want, you can keep using it. An overlay is another option when you want to choose the same familiar style through an app you also use in other games.

ChrossX lets you choose a style, size, and color on Windows. For a server that permits overlays:

  1. Open ChrossX and start with a small dot or short cross.
  2. Launch FiveM on the same monitor and use your normal resolution.
  3. Compare the overlay with the game's aiming point in a suitable practice area.
  4. Check the views and weapons you use. A screen-center mark does not automatically match every camera position.
  5. If two crosshairs overlap, choose the one that is easiest to read and disable the extra mark.

If you also play the standard game, use our GTA V crosshair guide. FiveM's console commands are specific to FiveM; they are not GTA Online settings.

What if a FiveM server disables crosshairs?

Server administrators can disable the custom crosshair through a replicated setting. If it is unavailable on a particular server, ask its staff what is permitted. A disabled crosshair does not establish permission to replace it with an overlay.

For an overlay that disappears when you enter the game, try windowed or borderless mode and check that both apps are on the same monitor. Our setup and compatibility guide explains those checks.

Common FiveM crosshair questions

Do I need an overlay app to get a crosshair in FiveM?

No. Try the built-in option first where your server permits it. A separate app is a choice about appearance and setup, not a requirement.

Why does my setup change between servers?

Servers can have different interfaces, camera behavior, and rules. Recheck your aiming reference when joining a new one.

Can I use these commands in GTA Online?

No. This guide uses FiveM client commands. Follow the separate GTA V setup guide for the standard game.

Will a crosshair make every shot land on the dot?

No. Your weapon, camera, and the server's gameplay mechanics still determine the shot. Use the mark as a visual reference, then learn how your usual weapons behave.
